Top Tips
- Do your homework on the day it is set wherever possible!
This means:
-You won’t forget about it or what you need to do
-You won’t end up with too much homework to do at the same time
-If you have a problem doing the homework you have time to speak to your teacher and solve the problem
-Issues with doing your homework will not be accepted if you haven’t tried to solve them
- If you find it hard to do homework at home, join a homework club to complete your homework at school at the end of the day
- You must be organised – if you need your login reset, speak to your teacher or if you lose the worksheet that you need for the homework, speak to your teacher. We are here to help!
Subject Breakdown
Subject

Homework
|
Religious Studies
|
- The aim of homework in Religious Studies is to consolidate what has been learned in class or deepen it.
- Homework in Religious Studies will be given once a fortnight out of homework booklets.
- Students will receive a text to read in their homework booklets and will need to answer questions based on it.
- Students should begin by reading the questions, so they have it in mind when reading the text.
- They should then read the text while highlighting key information.
- Using this, questions should then be answered in their class books using full sentences.
|
Music
|
- Music homework is to practice! To make the best possible progress on their instruments, it is imperative that students practice regularly - little and often is best and we suggest a minimum of 15 minutes per day.
- Students will be given music to practice. We ask that you support your child by encouraging them to practice at home and consider supervising them in the beginning to help your child get into good habits.
- Students will have the opportunity to graduate on to metal/professional versions of their instruments if they show aptitude and demonstrate commitment to practice.
- Students are required to bring their instruments into school for their instrumental lessons and take their instrument home at the end of the day; no instruments should be left in school overnight.
|
Art
|
- Y7 students will have 1 hour of Art homework every fortnight.
- Homework will be given in a Homework Booklet with all the tasks for the half-term.
- Each task is split into two parts:
- Drawing task (30 minutes) – a practical activity to practise your skills.
- Critical understanding task (30 minutes) – research or written work to build your knowledge of artists and art ideas.

Science
|
- For Science Homework students are expected to complete a quiz each week on Educake the Science Homework platform.
- Website: https://www.educake.co.uk
- They are to select “sign in with Microsoft” option and use their school emails and corresponding passwords to login.
- Quiz will be 60 questions long and can take from 30-60 minutes to complete. Pass mark is 60%.
- Quiz will be based on topics they are currently learning in the curriculum in the current term.
- Quiz may include topics not yet covered in class. Students are therefore allowed to use the internet to help them research the answer.
- Any issues logging in please see you class Teacher and/or come to Educake support club held in the LRC every Monday after school.

Maths
|
- In maths, students should be completing homework each week on Sparx Maths: https://sparxmaths.com/
- This is an online homework platform which sets level-adjusted homework to each individual student and provides tutorial videos alongside each question.
- Students should be spending approximately 1 hour a week on their maths HW - if their HW is too easy or too difficult, Sparx will adjust the level of the questions to make them more suitable.
- The "XP Boost" and "Target" sections are optional and are recommended for students who finish the compulsory section quickly and are looking to challenge themselves.
- Students should be aiming for 100% completion each week, though teachers will be understanding if one or two of the questions are phrased confusingly and unsolvable.
- Please encourage your child to complete their homework early so they have enough time to ask the teacher for help or to adjust the level of difficulty manually.
- Students have been shown how to log in in class and should have written their login details in their planner. If they are unable to log in, they can click "Forgot Password" and it will send their teacher a link, which will enable them to reset their login details.

- In the homework booklet, students must complete ‘look, cover write check’ style revision plus 4 translation and a GCSE style ‘photo description’ activity whereby they need to describe what is in the photo.
- On the day of their homework deadline, students will have to complete a vocabulary test based on the words from that fortnightly section of the homework booklet.
- Students will not receive a detention if they fail the in-class quiz but will need to show the teacher their homework booklet to provide evidence to see they have revised.
