Sixth Form Discretionary Bursary Fund

Helping students access education without financial barriers

The Post 16–19 Discretionary Bursary Fund is designed to support students who may struggle with the costs of staying in education.

Each school or college receives funding from the government and decides how best to distribute it, based on students individual needs.  

Who Can Apply
  • Students aged 16–19 on 31 August of the academic year.

  • Must meet UK residency requirements.

  • Families on low incomes or receiving certain benefits are most likely to qualify.

What the Bursary Can Cover
  • Travel costs to and from school or college.

  • Meals during the school day.

  • Books, stationery, and equipment needed for courses.

How to Apply
  • Complete the application form on the website or by clicking this link 

  • Provide evidence of household income (such as benefit statements or payslips).

  • Submit your application as early as possible funds are limited and awarded on a first come, first served basis.

  • The school will review applications and notify families of the outcome.  

Important Information
  • Awards are not guaranteed and depend on available funding.

  • Students may need to reapply each academic year.

  • The school may prioritise students with the greatest financial need.
