Introducing Westminster ARP
We are very excited to announce that Bridge Academy now has an Additional Resource Provision (ARP) for students with Cognition and Learning Difficulties. We were approached in 2021 by Hackney Education and asked to consider an ARP based on the school’s reputation for excellence in supporting students with SEND.
It is a joy to see students thriving in and enjoying our new Westminster space. After developing this provision alongside Hackney Education over the past few years it is a delight to see it come to fruition. We are really proud of the support on offer to students here at Bridge
Ms. Peck, Assistant Vice Principal for Inclusion
The ARP is based on the 3rd floor of the school and comprises two classrooms and the SPACE room (a Safe, Peaceful And Calm Environment for students to enjoy at break and lunch). In keeping with the Bridges theme, this area of the school has been named Westminster. As one of our Year 7 students expresses: "I like that I get to have my own private space at lunch and feel comfortable around people that have the same needs as me." This sentiment perfectly sums up the experience for all who use Westminster!
The ARP provides students with a bespoke curriculum, taught in small groups, whilst ensuring that students still receive a mainstream secondary experience. As part of the ARP development, we have introduced a new KS4 qualification, focusing on Preparing for Adulthood. Mr Naylor, who has recently taken over as SENDCo, has begun teaching 'Learning for Life' to Year 10 and this qualification will ensure all students in this class can achieve the Duke of Edinburgh qualification as well as a BTEC Level 1 in Personal Growth and Wellbeing.
Feedback from parents has also been warmly received with one Year 8 parent stating: "I have nothing but positive feedback for Bridge Academy. My daughter has special needs and the SEND department is first class at tailoring to her needs. Very friendly staff members, always on hand to help, overall a brilliant journey so far." Another Year 8 parent shares: "The Bridge SEND department takes my child's needs into consideration. My child is happy in school. Games club and SPACE room give him a chance to socialise and be himself, whilst also implementing the values of Bridge."
"We are thrilled to have an ARP at Bridge Academy. Our commitment to excellence and inclusion is at the heart of everything we do, and the ARP exemplifies this perfectly."
