Science

Choose a subject:

In Science, pupils study a broad range of scientific knowledge, ideas and vocabulary.

Practical work and investigations form an important part of lessons, alongside the teaching of  scientific concepts and skills.

The curriculum covers how scientific knowledge has developed and its application in areas  such as medicine, technology, energy and the environment.

KS3 Science

Science is taught as a spiral curriculum where we re-visit various topics from KS3 throughout the GCSE course, which looks at the concepts in more depth. This allows students to expand on their knowledge from KS3 through experimentation or critically thinking about science in the news.

 KS4

At KS4, pupils follow the AQA Trilogy specifications through either Combined Science or  Separate Science (also known as Triple Science).

Both routes cover Biology, Chemistry and Physics with  practical work forming part of the courses.

Combined Science:

This is the compulsory route.

Pupils study all three sciences and receive two GCSEs grades.

  •  Year 10: 10 lessons per fortnight
  • Year 11: 11 lessons per fortnight
  • Specific classes receive additional curriculum time for science in both year 10 and year 11

Separate Science (Triple Science):

This is an option route.

Pupils study Biology, Chemistry and Physics as separate GCSEs and receive three GCSEs, one in each science.

  • Year 10: 4 additional lessons per fortnight
  • Year 11: 2 additional lesson per fortnight
